MN SILVER BADGE

MN SILVER BADGE
“They had a small silver badge -the letters MN with laurel leaves-and meaning the wearer was in the Merchant Navy. They had as much pride in wearing that small badge, as did men in the services in wearing their uniforms”.

Ushakov Medal:

On 16th June 2013 British Prime Minister David Cameron and Russian President Vladimir Putin presented a number of British Veterans with the Ushakov Medal during a special ceremony at Downing Street, prior to the G8 summit.

The decision was made in part as a response to the Military Medals Review by Sir John Holmes – who WRF wrote to regarding this issue – into the rules, principles and processes for medallic recognition of military campaigns. Sir John published his initial findings in July 2012 in the Military Medals Review and was subsequently asked by the Government to undertake further work based on the recommendations he made. In the review Sir John criticised the application of the rules governing the acceptance and wearing of foreign awards.

What is required is that both the Ushakov and Arctic Star are awarded as quickly as possible to the heroes.
